    Greetings MES Families!

I hope you all had a relaxing, sun-filled Spring Break last week and came back this week feeling recharged and ready for our final nine weeks of school. It is so great to see our cohorts of students and teachers settling into in-person and remote learning routines as we continue to adapt our teaching and learning to the requirements of the on-going COVID pandemic.

Keeping our students, staff and family members safe is our number one priority. Thank you for the energy you all are putting into submitting your student’s daily health attestation and getting your student to and from school on time. Having these things in place really help us start and finish our in-person cohort times smoothly and predictably. Thank you, also, for communicating about your student’s attendance. You can reach Erika directly with attendance information or questions at or 206)743-3804.

Overall, our drop off and pick up rountines have gone smoothly, however we are still working on making our areas with cars close to bodies safer. During the March 31st Return to In-Person Orientation, I asked that families do not park on our school block. Currently, the side of our building on Smith St. has 5 minute load and unload signs. Some MES adult family members are parking on the school side of Smith St., which does not feel safe with so many student bodies close by. We are working with the City of Seattle to have this signage changed to a no parking zone during school hours. In the mean time, we are again asking adult family members to not park on our school side of Smith St. during drop off or pick up windows. We hope to have temporary signs out soon message this request. If you are a family member with time and interest to help us monitor this area specifically in terms of helping drivers not park on the school side of Smith St., please let me know.

Karla, our Lunchroom Supervisor, will be at our school every morning to prepare grab-and-go lunches. These lunches are available at no charge to all students. If you would like for your student to take a lunch home (and possibly eat a portion during their snack time at recess) please let your student’s teacher know.

Thank you all for your ongoing flexibility, optimism and empathy!
    With ongoing gratitude and appreciation,
