School Leader Update

Dear Magnolia Families and Staff,

I am pleased to announce Ms. Kelly Walter has been named as the acting principal of Magnolia Elementary School for the 2022-23 school year. Ms. Walter will begin serving as acting principal on July 1, 2022. She is serving in place of Ms. Cryan Leary, who is taking a leave of absence. 

Ms. Walter has served Seattle Public Schools in a variety of capacities. Most recently, she served as the assistant principal of Hazel Wolf K-8 School. She has developed systems and structures that have helped her schools grow and thrive. Ms. Walter was appointed because of her commitment to equity and access, student-centered leadership, relationship-building skills, and her expertise as an instructional leader. 

In Spring 2023, SPS will conduct a principal selection process for the principal position. At that time, SPS will notify the community of next steps. Until then, Acting Principal Walter’s dedication to collaborative problem solving and her commitment to high quality learning experiences will support and guide Magnolia Elementary School.
