Dear Magnolia Elementary Students and Family Members,

On behalf of the Magnolia Elementary staff, I would like to welcome you all to Magnolia Elementary! We know that families have had different experiences leading up to this assignment and want to recognize that, for all of our incoming families, the new start at Magnolia next fall involves saying goodbye to a current school community. As we move through preparations for our opening day and begin to form connections with each other as a school community, please know that our staff members are aware that this process will present challenges for both students and parents and that we are here to support you in this transition.

As a staff, we are SO excited to meet our students and their families! We would like to invite you all to fill out our family connection survey and attend our first school gathering on Tuesday, April 30th from 6:30 to 8 at Catherine Blaine K-8! The purpose of this event will be to introduce ourselves to each other and start developing the relationships that will allow our new school community to thrive. All incoming students and their adult family members are encouraged to attend. Here is what you can expect:

6:30 Mascot Vote & Connecting Time
We have been collecting our students’ mascot ideas since February. Recently, our staff reviewed all of the ideas submitted and narrowed them down to a list of four finalists that we felt best represented the vision, mission and learning approach we have identified for our school. The four finalists are: Orcas, Herons, Otters and Evergreens. To start our meeting, students and family members will have an opportunity to vote and then have time to meet and visit with other families before staff introductions.

6:45 Welcome, Staff Introductions & Mascot Announcement!

7:00 Student and Adult Breakout Sessions
Students will have the opportunity to go to classrooms with their future teachers to create Magnolia Elementary artwork that will be used to announce our opening throughout the Magnolia community.

While the kids create, an information session will be provided for the adults that will include updated information about our school planning and our developing PTA and time for specific questions.

We have received questions from many families about child care. We will have an on-site after school child care program. We are currently going through the selection process with the district and city and will have a provider selected soon. No registration has started for this child care. When selected, the provider will communicate directly with MES families to register students.

We look forward to meeting you all soon!
