Learning Assistance Program (LAP)

LAP at Magnolia

The Learning Assistance Program (LAP) is a statewide program which provides supplemental instruction and services to students in need of academic support (math and/or reading) as identified by statewide, school, or district assessments or other performance measurement tools.

LAP funds are available to support programs in grades K–12 in reading, writing, mathematics, and readiness for those subjects. Students are eligible for extra assistance regardless of family income.

At Magnolia, students receive LAP support in class and out of class in small groups, using research-based teaching materials and trained teachers working with LAP assistants. These include:

  • Supplementary materials
  • Computer-assisted learning
  • Parent involvement activities
  • Professional development for all staff

For the 2022-23 school year, we are lucky to have three SPS tutors (Louisa Benckendorff, Elizabeth Dunigan, and Ashley Feiger) an additional tutor from Seattle Pacific University (Hannah Ruckman).
