Birthdays

Student birthdays are celebrated in classrooms with a birthday sun and acknowledgements circle on their special day (summer birthdays are celebrated at the end of the school year). Students walk around their paper sun as many times as their age while the class sings a special Magnolia birthday song. Peers acknowledge them with compliments one at a time and then write a compliment on their sun. Birthday celebrations are the same for all students and we don’t allow sugary treats or gift bags for celebrations in school.

Happy birthday!! We celebrate your birth, and your place on the earth, may the sun, moon, and stars bring you peace where you are. I compliment you for... I appreciate that you...

Halloween

At Magnolia, we recognize that there are many different holidays celebrated by many different cultures. Classroom teachers may choose to have events or engaging class activities related to different holidays to teach students about them. But as a school we do not pick and choose holidays to ‘celebrate’. As a result, we do not dress in costume on Halloween.
